These tips came directly from a client who recently got married.
1. If you know any one who is travelling abroad, often you can buy material a lot cheaper and you could save money on things like bridesmaids dresses. Hong Kong is particularly good for this.
2. Delegate out small jobs to people who can help make, or prepare things.
3. Know any body who is good with needle work? This client got a friend to make her veil.
4. Design your own table plan and get another friend to make it for you.
5. Make your own invitations and place cards.
6. Print out your own order of service.
7. Take your flowers from the church and use them for the top table.
8. Don’t buy things too early as your taste may change as styles change.

Driving up to do the wedding on this particular Saturday was different on this day because Claire, ( one of my associates ) came with me to work. Not only was it nice to have the company ( always good to have some one help read the map and have a laugh and joke along the way! ), but it transpired that we worked really well together as a team.

With every wedding that I do, you can never take away the excitement that is felt on the morning when arriving. So when Claire and I stepped through the door and began work ( I was doing the hair and make-up and she was doing the nails ), we really had a good time too.

Both of us worked to make our bride and friends feel great and when we’d finished they all walked out, looking fantastic. Another successful day. Hopefully now, we’ll get the chance to work a lot more like that in the future and have the opportunity to create the whole all round wedding package for any bride that wants to book us on their wedding day.

What a great couple of hours that were spent this morning chatting and discussing plans for the new venture of ” Claire Wallace Hairdressing and associates “.
Meeting up with the new team of associates, started as every good meeting should with coffee and cakes ( I wanted to make a good impression on these girls Ha ha! )
As the business has grown so much and realising that in fact I was turning down a lot of work - ( not good business sense me thinks! ), I decided that It was now the time to start bringing other professionals on board.
This was really hi-lighted to me a couple of months ago when having a meeting with Sussex Business link and with their recommendation of where I should be heading. It was also recommended to me that I should get some help with my admin. What a revelation! I should have done this ages ago!! Normally I sit up to the early hours ( after finishing a long days work ) emailing and answering questions, obviously very necessary for any good business. But now, I have a very great lady helping me with all of that and boy, does It make a lot of difference.
So, with any luck in the very near future, you will start to see the other associates arrive on the site.

Job Opportunity In Greece

I was extremely flattered last week, when I was offered the great opportunity of being hired, to fly all expenses paid with an assistant to Greece to do wedding hair and make-up for a bride. With wonders like the internet and the use of my web site, the client found me and loved what was on the site so much that she wanted to hire me as a result.
The wedding was to be held out side a hotel on an October’s day. Fantastic I thought, a chance to practice my rusty Greek ( once learnt from an old boyfriend ) but, when I checked, I was mortified to realise that I was already booked for the same date! Having wracked my brain for an alternative solution and the possibility of some one else taking my orriginal job, I realised that my loyalty was to the client who had already made the booking and given a deposit to secure it.
Oh well I thought! It takes a long time to build up a good reputation a short time to loose it and hopefully another chance will come to do a wedding like that.!!

Tips From A Bride

I thought I’d pass these little tips on to you ladies, chatting to the brides ( like I always do ), I thought it would be useful to ask them directly if they had any tips that they felt would be useful for those of you who were yet to get married.
This was the response.

1. If your wearing a dress that doesn’t need a bra with it - and your wedding dress shop has told you that you don’t need one, don’t leave it till the last minute to find the right under wear if you feel unhappy about going bra-less. You could have some trouble in finding the right thing to suit and end up just buying some thing quickly because you’ve run out of time!

2. When wearing a tiara, be sure to wear it for a little test run before the day to ensure that it feels comfortable on your head. Speaking to one bride, she told me how she wore her tiara on her wedding day and it was so tight that it hurt her head and felt very uncomfortable for the duration of the day.

3. Having a number of your relatives around the day before you get married, was definitely not a good idea according to another bride. She said it became quite stressful whilst trying to sort things out before the big day.

4. Being sure to enjoy your day was another great piece of advice given. A lot of time and effort seems to be given to every single minute detail, when actually if a few things go wrong being able to laugh about it makes the day more memorable.

5. Making sure that you have your shoes six weeks before the wedding, is another great piece of advise given. It is suggested that you try them on and decide if the heel size is going to work with the length of the dress. Also, very important to decide at this point if they are going to be comfortable to wear for any length of time and may be some time should be taken to spend wearing them in.
Finalise the dress length with the shoes. I think this is a great piece of advice !

I will continue to add things to this list. It will be a list that comes directly from the brides that I deal with.

Would Dad Cry Again?

Starting work that morning, seemed like any other, travelling out to the location to begin hair and make-up for a wedding.
Having not met Sue’s mum and sister before I soon got chatting to them, they were excited about the day and it’s events. I knew today was in fact a blessing and that the original wedding had taken place in Scotland. None the less, it appeared that no detail had been left behind to make this an equally special day.
Sue’s sister was showing concern about her dad and whether he would cry again! Together with her mum, they were both joking about it and how dad had stood there on the wedding day, with the tears rolling down his face! As we talked about the events, it then became apparent that the probable reason why, was because this man had seen his daughter at deaths door, come through the other side and was now getting married!
Sue, had been a victim of 7/7.
I was shocked! having met Sue twice before to sort out pre wedding hair and make-up, I could see she walked with a limp, but had no idea that she’d lost a leg! I knew that she worked for a charity and that in fact, she was an extremely out going person, but apart from that, there was no indication of what this woman had gone through.
Having finished off with Sue’s mum and sister, I now was going on to another location to prepare Sue’s hair and make-up for her.
My assistant and I, walked in to the hotel room to find Sue bright and breezy. There hanging up, was her beautiful pink wedding dress. She seemed very calm and excited about seeing all her friends and family. As I worked, I was aware that Sue’s husband was in the back ground, quietly preparing things for them to go on to their second celebration and when I had finished, I could see the love and devotion of this man as he fussed around her, helping to get her ready to leave. She looked beautiful!
We said good bye and as we left, I couldn’t stop thinking about how amazing this woman was!
I was humbled on that day, it does give you a better perspective of what really is important and worth worrying about in our own lives and how great full, we really should be for every moment!
