Question: Do you have any ideas for wedding hair styles that would suit my very thick, curly hair? My hair is quite unruly and comes down to my shoulders. I find it hard to manage so most of the time I tie It back, but I’d like to do some thing special with It for my wedding.
Answer: There are two ways to tame thick, curly hair and give It a contemporary wedding look. The first would be to straighten the hair to give It a slick, shiny, straight appearance. The second option would be to set the hair on big heated rollers. Setting the hair this way would smooth down very curly hair and make It look a lot more shiny as curly hair can sometimes appear to be dull as it does not reflect the light well. This would also make It much more manageable to work in to a beautiful wedding style. The hair could then either be put up into a soft, feminine fashion or you could take part of it back, creating a half-up, half-down look.
Question: I am getting married in a few months and have five bridesmaids who all need their hair doing. I’m worried about the arrangements and how i should go about planning their hair for the day Can you give me some tips?
Answer:
- Start thinking about your own hair first and the type of look that you want.
- Discuss with your bridesmaids if their styles will be themed around your own.
- Decide if their hair will be all up/down or partially up and whether it is to be straight or curly.
- Make an appointment for a trial of your own hair.
- If possible, introduce your bridesmaids at this point so the stylist can assess what she will do on the day ( if this is not possible, bring along current head shots ).
- Make decisions with the stylist about desired finished looks and how to achieve them and if they will be wearing accessories in their hair.
- Get advice on hair care between now and the wedding date to ensure that your hair is in the best possible condition
- Arrange any further trials if necessary.
- Make sure every one is clear whether their hair should be wet or dry when the stylist arrives on the day.
- Ensure that every one is aware of the plans and schedule before the stylist arrives.
Having good planning is definitely the answer to a stress-free, more enjoyable and fun time while getting ready for your wedding.
Question: I’ve been trying to grow my hair to put it up for my wedding, but i don’t think its long enough to work. What should i do?
Answer: There are some really great options to work with now if your hair is still a bit short, ranging from numerous hair pieces, wefts or additions. Hair pieces range in colour, price and length and can easily be gripped into your own hair to create maximum volume and length. Wefts can simply be added underneath you own hair and discreetly secured by way of clips. Additions or extensions can be applied in a more permanent way. All of these hair types can be matched to your own colour using human hair and if they’re added professionally, they look fantastic and you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. Hey presto, you now have some luscious locks that you can use to create a wedding hair-do.
Question: My hair is really long and I’d love to wear it up for my wedding. However, I’m unsure what to do because it’s very thick and heavy. Can you advise me?
Answer: Sometimes when hair is very heavy it can actually be quite painful to pull the hair up into a tight ponytail, which creates a lot of tension. Having said this, there are some fantastic looks that can be achieved and are simple to create. One way to do this is to split the hair down the back to create three ponytails. These can be individually knotted and pinned, creating what appears to be a very sophisticated look. There is less stress on the head and hair and its beautiful to look at! This can be finished off with flowers or crystals! Very simple but fantastically effective!
Question: I am getting married later on this year and at this stage, i don’t have a clue what to do with my hair.
Answer: What i suggest is that you start having a look around and get a feel for the types of styles that you like. You need to take into consideration the style and the colour of the dress and most importantly, what you feel comfortable wearing. A lot of brides already have a set idea of whether they want their all up or only partially. Start researching hairdressers and find one that will suit your needs and budget - check for credentials and whether they specialise in wedding hair. When you are happy with you choice, arrange a trial ensuring that you bring along any pictures of styles you like, along with your tiara and veil. It’s a great idea to bring a camera for a few choice snaps! You may possibly have to arrange another trial, but normally one is enough. When you are totally happy, book your wedding in with your stylist. You can then sit back and be happy in the knowledge that you are all ready to go for you big day.
Question: Do i need decorative accessories to enhance my bridal hairstyle?
Answer: Claire Wallace says: This is a question often asked by brides and i think the answer to that is a resounding “yes”. I feel, especially the bride, needs to have a gorgeous, finished look. More often than not, a tiara is used to create the perfect balance between fantastic hair and a beautiful dress. Most brides take a lot of thought and consideration over their hair; timeless couture, or contemporary up-to-the-minute looks can be wonderfully enhanced by thoughtfully placing the correct chosen accessories. Bridesmaids often have small delicate flowers, crystals or tiaras to compliment their dresses and hair. By careful selection, using colours and style already being used, you can create a partnership between bride and bridesmaids and round the whole look up nicely.
Question: I have quite fine, shoulder-length hair which doesn’t tend to hold a style too well. I’ve tried curling it but the curls drop out quite quickly. I really want to have some thing with a bit of body, but I’m worried my hair will look limp. Can you help?
Answer: There are a couple of options you can go for here. The first is to consider having your hair permed, while the second is having your hair set on heated rollers and adding a couple of temporary hair wefts, which can easily be put in or taken out. If you choose the option to perm your hair, take time to discuss what type of perm would be best for you and most suited to your needs. The quality of perms are much better than they used to be, so you can achieve some thing soft which would also give body but not compromise the condition of the hair. You can also achieve volume by setting the hair on heated rollers and then adding ( by way of clips which can’t be seen ) at least two wefts of hair which can be either artificial or real. These can easily be bought and matched to your own colour and are already softly curled - a great solution for adding length and volume. Both of these options can then be styled to the desired finished wedding look.
Question: My husband-to-be would really like me to wear my hair up on our wedding day because he loves the way it looks, but i’m worried i’d feel self conscious as i hardly ever tie my hair back. I want him to love the way i look on our big day but i want to feel comfortable too. Do you have any suggestions?
Answer: I definitely think the best option for you would be to wear your hair half up, half down. That way you get a good compromise. You could also consider having it curled, which creates a look that is softer. This can be done using various methods, but bearing in mind the finished result has to last the day. Once the hair is curled it can be taken back at the front and secured below the crown using simple grips and pins. The rest of the hair will just be left down at the back. You could then dress the hair with flowers, grips or an ornate comb. Tendrils of hair can be left around the face to soften and finish the look.
Question: I am getting married in the summer with a Midsummer Night’s Dream-themed wedding and i would love to wear fresh flowers in my hair as i think this would be a lovely, romantic look. Is this some thing a hair dresser would be able to do for me? And do you think it would work best with my hair up or down? My hair is fairly thick and shoulder length.
Answer: I think having flowers in your hair to go with your theme is a great idea. However, the flowers that you choose will need to complement the finished hairstyle. Personally, I feel that if you wear your hair down and have it softly curled it suggests a softer, more romantic look. However, if your hair is thick it might be difficult to retain the curl for the day and may work better having it up. Having a hair trial will help you decide what works best. Finally, the flowers you choose should be made wearable by asking a florist to set them on fine wires to enable the hairdresser to easily thread them into the hair and should match the blooms in the bouquet or floral arrangement.
